As a child, we’re busy playing and growing up and the last
thing we think about is our well-being. We simply take for granted that we will
always be full of energy, healthy and happy, have enough money and a loving
family to support us.
FOREVER.
As we get older, we realize that these things don’t
magically appear in our lives and they don’t certainly magically stay with us
for a long enough time, forget about FOREVER!
We get tired, have less energy, our waistline e-x-p-a-n-d-s, we lose someone
dear to us, our economic situation changes and sometimes family members seem
far away in more ways than one. We do not get the support we expect and this hurts us, sometimes causing us to worsen our situation.
Instead of continuing to live without worries, we have to
work on being well in all areas of our life.
The first step towards doing that is being informed.
Then based on the choices we have, we can make good
decisions to ensure our wellbeing.
Why work on our wellbeing? Here are some benefits of
maintaining our physical health:
We are stronger, we feel fit and have more energy. This
alone is worth it!
We control our weight better.
We help build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and
joints.
We promote our psychological well-being and reduce and
overcome feelings of depression and anxiety.
(Yep, physical wellbeing affects mental well-being and vice
versa.)
We reduce our risk of developing high blood pressure.
We reduce our risk of developing cancer.
We reduce our risk of dying prematurely (especially from
heart disease).
We reduce our risk of having to live with our body tied up
to tubes and life-saving equipment.
In short, when we are physically fit, we invite overall
good health to come and stay with us for a long-long time. With good energy
levels, our mood improves and we feel better, our self confidence grows and we
are ready for any challenge, any problem that life throws at us. Being fit will
have an impact on all areas of our life and overall well-being.
We may be tempted to say, “I’m too old? It’s too late.”
We can say instead, “Are we really too old?” “Is it really too late?” Hope reigns eternal...it is never too late to
get started.
Even if we are so intimately acquainted with our sofa that
the cushions have taken the shape of certain parts of our body presence, we
have the power to always turn things around! And plump out those cushions while
we’re at it!
The good news is that we don’t have to overhaul our entire
life — we can take small steps that make a huge impact.
START.
You deserve great vibrant health and so do we.
